The creator becomes my own creation: my own work of art. Reflecting upon the identity of the artist and the notion of ‘art-making’, an emptied version of myself visualises stress, effort and the pressure released through the trauma of creation. Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, the birth of Athena from Zeus’ head is seen as an analogy to the idea born from the artist’s head. Signs of breakage recognise inherent weakness and blend fragility with the concrete nature of the piece, whereas diluted clay coats the interior as a symbolic reference to flesh in Greek art – a constant reminder of mortality that inhabits a fractured identity.
