A protective skin, an armour, a hard impenetrable shell is set as a barrier between myself and the world. A mould of the artist’s figure becomes descriptive of a way to apprehend personal identity through an absence that is allusive of deficiency. The gap in self-understanding splits the case into two interlocking parts. Halves become opposites highlighting a simultaneous duality, as the external variable tonal quality gives place to a contrasting internal treatment. Hot and cold. Examining notions of closeness and distance with one’s self, red and blue coating hints to the effect of ‘chromostereopsis’, as a pretence of depth that doesn’t really exist.
