‘Every act of creation is first of all an act of destruction’ – Picasso. Challenging the paradigm of art as commodity, learning from destruction, pieces investigate how to build from it. Recycling debris, residue is repurposed to new work, bearing evidence of erasure, fractures and injuries. Restrictions give birth to potentialities and define limits to push and overcome. Expanding on the concept of trace and matter, project builds on the emotional connection developed between human and occupied space – the studio that is shrinking around the artist. Employing wide ranging materiality to explore journey in art, this process enables meconceive artworks as mental and emotional landscapes, investigating different methods to register creator’s identity in the work. To give material form to emotion and thought.
